Parsley Box meals make caravanning even easier with their ability to be kept in a cupboard for several months – no need for a fridge or a freezer! They can be heated in a microwave in a matter of minutes allowing you to enjoy a wholesome meal with minimal effort required.
We’ve put together our top 10 caravanning tips – whether you’re a beginner or experienced at taking your home on the move we’re sure you’ll come across some helpful ideas below.
– When going away there’s so much to remember that it’s so easy to forget something important. This may seem obvious but it’s a great idea to make a checklist of everything you’ll need from clothes to cameras allowing you to set off without worrying that something has been left behind.
– If you are a beginner it’s wise not to go too far afield on your first trip or two. Somewhere you are familiar with which isn’t a long distance from home makes it much easier to get into a routine and discover the do’s and don’ts without the added stress of a long journey to somewhere new.
– Before setting off it’s important to make sure that your van is safe and secure. This means ensuring that the towing aid is fitted correctly, drawers and other loose items are secure and all windows and doors are locked. It might be best to make a separate checklist highlighting everything you need to check!
– Make sure you take it easy on the roads. Towing something as large as a caravan takes some getting used to, therefore make sure you drive at a reduced speed – in slow vehicle lanes where possible – and remember to be mindful of other vehicles around you.
– Caravanning beginners will feel more confident driving in light traffic. Therefore it’s a good idea to have an early start to miss the rush of vehicles and save yourself from the stress of navigating in heavy traffic. This will also allow you to reach your destination in good time and make the most of your break.
– If you belong to a car recovery scheme it is important to check that they will recover your caravan if it breaks down. Many will only recover a caravan as part of a broken down car, and some may not at all. It’s better to be prepared for this in case you find yourself in difficulty whilst out on the roads.
– If you have enough room, it’s a good idea to carry your caravan’s spare tyre in the boot of your car. This will make your car heavier which will improve the balance between your car and your caravan, allowing for better control.
– The law requires that you have an adequate view down both sides of the caravan. This means using towing mirrors which have extended arms allowing for a better view of what’s going on behind you. Make sure you’ve checked that your towing mirrors are legal before you set off.
– If you are towing your caravan in Europe you will need to adhere to that country’s legislation. Make sure to do your research so that you are clued up on this before you set off so as to avoid having to deal with the local authorities which would cause a bumpy beginning to your trip.
– Stock up on food which is easy to heat and can be kept in a cupboard for months at a time without the need for a fridge or a freezer. Aside from the obvious tinned soups and beans, Parsley Box provide ready meals which are wholesome, have a shelf life of up to 6 months and are easy to heat and eat within a matter of minutes.
